After Dogs BOND was featured on BuzzFeed, there's a lot of other kinds of questions that we're getting across many different channels.

Who and what inspired us to move forwards and how did we come up with the Events? Well, when I started looking at the development 3 years ago, I was super thrilled to learn about #NationalDogDay. I had to learn more and my research took me to a simple page for National Dog Day.

ABOUT NATIONAL DOG DAY

Founded in 2004 by Animal Welfare Advocate and Pet Lifestyle Expert, Colleen Paige, National Dog Day celebrates all breeds, mixed and pure and serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues and pure breed rescues.

So what did this mean for the game development? Well it got me to think about the different pieces of the game where "everyone gets to play". Different game mechanics like this where someone else's turn can still be to your benefit.

One thing I also had to figure out was what happened to make sure that the person drawing the card was going to be happy they did. So I worked it out that Alpha draws 2 and plays 2; while the other players only draw 1 and play 1. Thanks again to Malone who helped me on those game mechanics.

And of course, thanks to #ColleenPaige for putting together National Dog Day. Your inspired work, inspired an Event Card in Dogs BOND!

Dogs BOND - a board game focusing on the animal rescue world - seeks to raise additional $10,000 by Sept. 4, 2020

SAN JOSEAug. 19, 2020 - Dogs BOND, an independent board game, launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds towards printing and production costs on Aug. 5. The project has already raised over 50% of their $20,000 total funding goal, with 15 days remaining to fully fund the project. The funds are to be used for printing, quality control, safety testing, and fulfillment to customers.

“Board games have the profound opportunity to bring us together and share an experience through story, art, and friendly competition,” said Alex Lu, game designer of Dogs BOND. “Through our commitment to creating something to infuse the rescue story with empathy and hope, we aim to promote more responsible animal ownership, drive more successful adoption outcomes, and add an inclusive game to game nights by providing hours of entertainment for families and friends.”

Dogs BOND asks players to explore a journey as a rescue dog in a shelter environment. Dogs BOND brings inclusion, diversity, and representation through the characters and illustration, while some parts of industry continue to explore positions on social issues.

After all board game meetups and conventions were effectively cancelled due to the pandemic, Dogs BOND built partnerships with volunteer-based animal rescues through the shared desire to improve the lives of animals.

“Through the partnerships, Dogs BOND has been made even more effective and successful with the art, game design, and storytelling,” said Lu. “I hope this game can become the board game for dog lovers worldwide.”

We Hear You!

We've gotten some great feedback about Dogs BOND in just a few short days! People love our theme, our message, our art, and of course that we're on Kickstarter!

As we proceed together on our journey to make the board game that dog lovers are talking about for the next few years - many fans and backers are asking us about adding additional dog breeds and mixes to the game. Diversity and representation matter, not only in our eight adopters, but in our mutts as well.

Sarah, Kiki, and I are working together to take a look at some of the game design elements that we've got for additional dogs to be represented in the game. I built a game system which is expandable and flexible so I'm hopeful we can make good progress on some of the designs that were on the drawing board.

Got a recommendation or for a particular breed you'd like to see represented in the game? Let us know in the comments section of our Kickstarter.

We're working for you, so your input and energy is crucial to our success. Don't forget to share this project with a friend today if you haven't!
